Colorism In All Races

The definition of colorism is how dark skinned people are treated unfavorably compared to lighter skinned people. In this article, The Washington Post , it talks about colorism in full detail particularly referring to the famous Michael Jackson. This article refers to colorism coming from racism. It is thought that colorism is the result of racism. This may have been the case many years ago, but now colorism is commonly looked upon differently in some aspects. Many people assume colorism only has to do with African Americans wanting to lighter their skin dating back to the slave days to be socially accepted; however, colorism currently has to do with Caucasians as well as other races such as Asians. Many Caucasians deal with colorism everyday. Many Caucasians love being tan for several reasons. It could be because the tan makes them look healthier or even because all their friends are going tanning so they think they should too. Many Caucasian women think they can only be found attractive if they have tanned skin. Whatever the circumstance is, now a days, all different people and races deal with colorism on different levels. As my blogging continues I will get more in depth with colorism!
